Wishing Well

My client contacted me wanting a wishing well to hide an unsightly raised manhole cover in her garden.

Checking the site and lifting the lid of the manhole showed there was ladder in there. As manholes shouldn't be blocked from access anyway a ladder in there probably means it's even more imperative not to block access.

My client didn't want a square well but instead a hexagon and ideally with water in it!

The water was going to make this more than a simple hexagon with a roof project. After trying a couple of ideas I decided that the best solution was to make a huge pull out draw that would be waterproofed and big enough so that once drawn out access to the manhole would be easy enough.

Finish to be as natural as possible, ie water repellent treatment only. In time the well will grey and twist naturally.

Manholes should not be covered under any circumstances when building works take place. This includes around the manhole to prevent possible collapse. Your local building control department can offer assistance if required often as “build over” agreements.

Prices from £1500. Well shown £2000
